Laundry day! No seriously, needed to wash some clothes since I’ll be here for another week. I ended up finding this place on the Internet before coming over called Wash&Fold. Given that hotel laundry was around $8 for a single shirt, this place ended up being a bargain. They also said they’d deliver next day, but much to my surprise they actually delivered same day. I’d also inadvertently left some money in my...

Lions, tigers and (no bears)… oh my! On the way to the Tokyo National Museum we discovered that there’s a zoo right next to it. We decided to check it out and spent the better part of three hours roaming about. It’s actually a pretty nice zoo and I got a ton of pictures. I’m only posting the one picture here because there are so many. I’ll be linking a gallery of all of them later.

I’ve seen it from my room a couple of times, but now I’ve actually been to Mt. Fuji. This trip was a full day. I arranged a tour with Grey Lines and they kicked things off with a pickup at the hotel around 7:45 a.m. After hitting a few other hotels we started the actual tour around 10 a.m. with a drive south that was about 2 hours. First stop was Station 5, which was a decent way up the mountain though I forget what they...

Akihabara (Electric Town)! Just a quick post on this one. I’ve been to Akihabara a few times now, including previous trips so I didn’t bother with any pictures but one. If there’s a heaven on earth, for Roger it’s Akihabara. We ducked in and out of stores trying to stay out of the rain for the better part of four hours. We plan to go back on Thursday as well so Roger can do some last minute shopping before he...

Road Trip!!! As much I love Tokyo, I was really looking forward to getting out of the city and seeing some countryside. I did that and more. Seiji took us to Kamakura, a coastal city southwest of Tokyo. The drive ended up being shorter than expected and the car Seiji selected was spacious and comfortable. The road trip down there was enjoyable especially as we got outside of Tokyo and the concrete gave way to the lush green hillsides. ...

The first night sleeping in Tokyo ended like this: And woke up to this: Not a bad start to Day 2… Kicking things off I headed to Kanda for the Kanda Matsuri festival. I think I was a little early as the crowd was not huge, but that was actually just fine for me. It gave me the chance to get some good pictures… I also managed to get a little snippet of video of one of the drum troupes. I wish I would have captured a full...

It has been a seriously long day. I wasn’t able to post anything in Toronto because my flight was running late. By the time I got off my first flight my flight to Tokyo was already boarding, which in addition to making me have to rush, also meant I wasn’t going to get a chance to try to upgrade my flight. Ended up not being too bad though. In my 3 row the middle seat was empty so the the other guy in the row and I were able...
